Just realised that I have a problem

Just realised that I have a problem
So I am looking for help. I have just realised today that I have a problem, I have always known that I’m quite anti social and I avoid going out and socialising all the time. I also struggle with showing my emotions and talking about how I feel and having meaningful conversations and expressing my opinion.

However I didn’t realise how bad it was until today. And it’s only today I know as my girlfriend who I have been with for over 2 years ended our relationship at first she just cried and said I can’t be with you anymore. As I began to ask more and more why she was so unhappy and what I had done she told me that she doesn’t feel like I care no matter how much I then told her that I love her. She explained that I never show her that I love her and she came up with certain moments in our relationship that proved this, I did not realise that I was being that way and the affect it had on her. This was the moment I realised I had a serious problem as I don’t want to lose her and I will do anything to not.

I am looking for some advise on how to change the way I am and open up more with regards to my emotions. Do I need counselling and should I see a doctor. Any advise or help with my situation would be great.
Unfortunately there is not a lot of information regarding alexithymia. And there are not many professionals that have the background.

In many ways you will have to find your own answers.

I know I am Alexi, and from a relationship perspective I have learned about Casandra Syndrome regarding emotional reciprocation (lack of). Your ex- is probably empathic and has come to the realization that her emotional needs are not being met.

There are two types of Alexi; pervasive or trait which is based upon your DNA OR state which is environmental or trauma based and can be mitigated through therapy.

I’m Alexithymic and mine is Pervasive.

Alexithymia - emotional blindness - is a personal trait which affects roughly 10% of the population.

Alexithymia describes the difficulty of people to perceive and describe emotions of others and themselves. Most persons concerned are not aware about this deficit and usually they are just recognizing it in contact with others, especially close friends, within their family or their partner.

These pages should deliver additional information about Alexithymia and offer information for affected persons, relatives and generally interested people.
